Meanings

The labradorite, also called spectrolite, belongs to the feldspar group and can be recognized by its shimmering colors when exposed to light.Labradorite was named after its first location, where it has been found, the Labrador Peninsula.
Characteristic is the colorful shimmering, which is created by light rays inside. This optical effect of the multiple refraction of light is called Labradorescence.
Because of its external effects, it is said to have a similar spectrum of effects on humans.
The most important found sites today are in Canada, Finland, Norway, Ukraine and Madagascar.

Rarer varieties of Labradorite include Golden Labradorite, a transparent gold or champagne-color, and Spectrolite, an intense variety displaying the entire color spectrum, discovered in Finland in the 1940s.
