Peridot – Guide of Healing Crystals
Peridot, also called chrysolite (Greek for goldstone), is a particularly pure variety of the mineral olivine. The name chrysolite is obsolete, because it denoted not only the peridot, but also many other color-like stones.
The origin of the name “peridot”, which appeared in many variants in the English and French-speaking countries in the Middle Ages, is unclear. Possible original names could be the Latin paederos ‘opal’ and Arabic farīda’ with the meaning unique’ as a designation for a precious gemstone.
